India, June 24 -- Director Curry Barker expressed astonishment at the unprecedented box office success of his horror debut, Obsession, which has become the highest-grossing Western horror film in Indian cinematic history.

The indie production has amassed over Rs78.60 crore net in India, surpassing all previous Western horror releases in the region. Barker, 26, admitted in an interview with Variety India that he never anticipated such a massive resonance for his directorial debut, especially since the project was filmed with very few resources. He noted that while filmmakers dream of their work connecting with viewers, the level of recognition "Obsession" is receiving is difficult to believe.
