India, Aug. 20 -- Five-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo has become the first Black African to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking a historic moment for the Benin-born singer and her four-decade international music career.
A Historic Honour in Hollywood
Kidjo, 66, unveiled her star during a ceremony attended by film stars and leading figures from the music industry. Speaking at the event, she reflected on Africa's contribution to global culture and music.
"We Africans don't know what we've given to the world," she said, before adding that music on the planet would not be possible without Africa. After thanking her family and team, Kidjo broke into song as guests watched the performance.
