Dhaka, Oct. 11 -- A controlled nuclear chain reaction has begun for the first time at the first unit of Bangladesh's Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, marking a major milestone in the commissioning of the country's first nuclear power facility.
The reaction, known as first criticality, began on Sunday afternoon, officials involved in the project confirmed.
First criticality is the stage at which a nuclear reactor achieves a self-sustaining chain reaction, with neutron production sufficient to maintain continuous nuclear fission. However, reaching this stage does not mean that the reactor has started generating electricity.
The next steps will involve completing the required safety and technical tests, gradually increasing the reactor's power ...
