Dhaka, May 20 -- A new record has been set in the country's power generation. Electricity production has surpassed 17,000 megawatts for the first time.

According to officials, the highest-ever power generation record was achieved at 9:00 PM on Wednesday, reaching 17,200 megawatts.

Previously, the country's highest power generation record was 16,794 megawatts, set on July 23, 2025.

Electricity demand usually reaches its peak after evening hours, especially due to hot weather conditions, which increase power consumption across the country.
