Dhaka, May 18 -- The price of furnace oil has been increased again. The price per litre has been raised by Tk 18.85, from Tk 94.69 to Tk 113.54.

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new price on Monday.

The revised price will come into effect from Tuesday.

Earlier, on April 12, the price of furnace oil was increased by Tk 24 per litre, from Tk 70.10 to Tk 94.69.

BERC said the price adjustment for May was made considering changes in the FOB price of crude oil and the exchange rate of the US dollar.

A large portion of imported furnace oil is used for power generation. The latest price hike is expected to increase the cost of oil-based electricity generation.
