Dhaka, Sept. 21 -- State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has said that the government was largely compelled to adjust fuel prices due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Monday.

The State Minister said fuel prices have been continuously rising amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, with the situation taking a new turn every day. As a result, insurance premiums and shipping costs have increased significantly, leaving the government with no alternative but to adjust fuel prices at this moment.

He said the government would not have taken such an unpopular decision if there had been any other option.
