Wildfire sweeps through Bardiya National Park
Bardiya, April 25 -- A wildfire that began two weeks ago in Bardiya National Park has spread to more than 20 percent of its area, authorities said, with smoke affecting nearby buffer zone settlements.
Residents of Thakurbaba, Madhuwan, Barbardiya and Basgadhi municipalities have been impacted, reporting eye irritation and breathing difficulties. "Children are crying due to burning eyes and discomfort," said activist Navaraj Dhungana.
The fire started in the northern Chure hills and has spread further south, with the northern and eastern sections worst affected, the park said.
