Kathmandu, Sept. 4 -- The wife of a man rescued from a hydropower tunnel in Nepal on Friday said her husband had been given "a second life" and thanked the rescuers who risked their lives to save him.

Kabir Maharjan of Kathmandu was pulled alive from the tunnel of the Trishuli 3A hydropower project on the 10th day since the devastating Bhotekoshi flood left him trapped underground.

"He has returned with a second life. We are extremely happy," his wife, Hira Shobha, told Kantipur. "We had been waiting. I am now going to the hospital to see my husband."

She said the days had been an extremely painful and difficult time for her and her family.
