Kathmandu, May 11 -- Passengers aboard a Turkish Airlines flight arriving in Kathmandu from Istanbul were evacuated after a tyre burst during landing at Tribhuvan International Airport on Sunday.

According to preliminary information, one of the aircraft's tyres exploded during or immediately after landing, triggering a fire near the wheel section.

Pilot Bed Upreti, who was near the airport at the time, said smoke and flames were seen near the landing gear area, close to the engine, after the tyre burst.

The flight crew and airport authorities then evacuated passengers through evacuation slides as a precautionary measure.

All passengers were brought out safely. No injuries have been reported so far.
