Kathmandu, Aug. 17 -- The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the release of journalist Kishor Shrestha, directing police to continue their investigation without keeping him in custody.

A division bench of justices Nahakul Subedi and Balkrishna Dhakal issued the order while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Shrestha's wife, Saraswati Shrestha.

Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala said Shrestha would be investigated while remaining outside custody.

"The writ petition was heard and an order has been issued for his release," Koirala said. "He will be released after police complete the necessary documentation and legal procedures."
