Kathmandu, May 11 -- The Supreme Court issued a short-term interim order on Monday, preventing the government from implementing its decision to dissolve the trade unions of civil servants.

A five-member constitutional bench heard the case, where three justices supported issuing the interim order while two registered a dissenting opinion.

Officiating Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, and justices Kumar Regmi and Hari Prasad Phuyal were in the majority, agreeing to stay the government's decision. Justices Binod Sharma and Sharanga Subedi dissented.

As per the practice in the apex court, the view of the majority will prevail, meaning the government's decision to scrap the trade unions will remain on hold for the time being.
