Kathmandu, Sept. 4 -- The death toll from the devastating flash flood has reached 1,287, authorities said Friday, as rescue teams continued searching for missing people and assessing extensive damage to homes, roads and other infrastructure.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, said 1,287 bodies, including human remains, had been recovered across eight districts affected by the disaster as of 12:30pm.

The toll includes 140 bodies recovered in Rasuwa, 184 in Nuwakot, 63 in Dhading, 72 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 219 in Nawalparasi East, 212 in Nawalparasi West and 359 in Chitwan.
