Kathmandu, April 26 -- The government has drafted a Federal Civil Service Bill that proposes raising the retirement age in the civil service to 60 years, while lowering the upper age limit for civil service entry to 32 years for men and 35 years for women. At present, the retirement age is 58. The current upper age limit for Public Service Commission examinations is 35 years for men and 40 years for women.

The draft bill was prepared in response to a long-standing demand for a federal civil service law, considered essential to the effective implementation of federalism. Although similar bills were introduced in both the 2017 and 2022 sessions of the House of Representatives, neither was enacted into law.
