Dhangadhi, May 29 -- The government has announced that academic programmes, including MBBS, will begin this fiscal year at the Martyr Dasharath Chand University of Health Science in Geta, Kailali.

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle made the announcement on Friday while presenting the budget for fiscal year 2026-27 in Parliament.

The university will launch teaching and learning activities across four disciplines, including medicine, as part of its first academic intake.

The government had already decided to introduce medical education at the institution alongside upgrading the 50-bed Geta Hospital into a 300-bed facility.
