Nepal, Oct. 5 -- For generations, Nepal's folk culture, literature and collective imagination have portrayed the Himalayas as immovable and enduring. When introducing ourselves to the world, Nepalis proudly invoke Mount Everest, the world's highest peak. Songs and school textbooks have reinforced the image of remaining "as steadfast as the Himalayas". That has also encouraged the belief that the mountains are inherently stable and will remain largely unchanged for centuries.
