Kathmandu, Aug. 12 -- The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has warned that frustration over poor job prospects and a lack of decent work can spill into political unrest, citing Nepal alongside Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as examples of the growing pressures facing young people in South Asia.

The ILO's Global Employment Trends for Youth 2026: Back to the Future, released Tuesday, discusses the three South Asian countries in the context of growing youth frustration over employment prospects. It draws a broader parallel with the Gen-Z protests that swept Kenya in 2024 and 2025, saying those protests were fuelled by joblessness, corruption and a perception that political institutions were failing to meet young people's expectations.
