Kathmandu, Aug. 8 -- Inside the Home Minister's office at Singha Durbar, amidst security briefing files, memorandums, and discussion notes, sits a small clay pot filled with soil. At first glance, it might look like a simple piece of decor. But for Home Minister Sudan Gurung, it is a keepsake brought from the border village of Susta-a constant reminder of the struggles faced by border communities and the pressing issue of national boundaries.

"This is soil from Susta," Gurung told Kantipur recently, pointing towards the pot. "A young activist brought it here during a protest, and I have kept it on my desk ever since. As long as I remain Home Minister, it stays here."
