Kathmandu, April 5 -- The government has recommended senior advocate Narayan Dutt Kandel for appointment as attorney general.
The Cabinet meeting held on Sunday forwarded Kandel's name to President Ramchandra Paudel.
The post had remained vacant following the resignation of Sabita Baral Bhandari on March 27. Bhandari, the first woman to hold the position, was appointed on September 14, 2025.
Kandel, a senior advocate, previously served as a legal counsel to Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane.
He graduated in law from Nepal Law Campus and holds a master's degree in peacekeeping operations from the National University of Ireland. He also earned a doctorate in law from Queen's University in the United Kingdom.
