Foreign medical students come to Nepal but twice as many Nepalis pursue medicine abroad
Kathmandu, Aug. 12 -- Nepal is attracting a growing number of foreign students to its medical colleges, particularly for MBBS and postgraduate programmes, even as thousands of Nepali students continue to leave the country to study medicine.
Data from the Medical Education Commission show that a total of 1,859 foreign students enrolled in medical education programmes in Nepal between 2024 and 2026. During the same period, as many as 4,741 Nepali students obtained approval from the commission to pursue medical education abroad.
Arjun Dhakal, information officer at the commission, however said that the figure of students approved to go abroad should not be read as the actual number who left Nepal, because not everyone who receives approval...
