Everest spring climbing season sets new record with 1,008 successful summits
Kathmandu, May 29 -- A record 1,008 climbers successfully summited Mount Everest during the 2026 spring climbing season, according to Nepal's Department of Tourism. Officials said the figure is the highest ever recorded on the world's tallest mountain since expeditions began.
Ram Krishna Lamichhane, director general of the Department of Tourism, said the season set multiple new records, including the number of successful climbers, permits issued and royalty revenues collected from Everest expeditions.
Khim Lal Gautam, coordinator of the temporary field office established at Everest Base Camp, said the total number of successful ascents had reached 1,008 as of Friday morning.
