Kathmandu, April 14 -- Kantipur Theatre is presenting the adaptation of Amar Nyaupane's Madan Puraskar-winning novel, 'Seto Dharti', until May 2. This adaptation also marks actress Benisha Hamal's debut in theatre.
"After 14 years of the book's publication, the story is being presented as a play, bridging the voices of older generations with the new," explains Nyaupane in the play's brochure. "Condensing the novel's long narrative into an hour and a half is commendable."
Through the characters Tara, Yamuna, and Pavitra, the issue of child marriage has been brought into the limelight. Director Sundar Dahal explains that the setting and dialogues explore the rhetorical question-"How can any woman live a life like this?"
