Jammu, March 12 -- A major security scare unfolded in Jammu late Wednesday night when a man allegedly attempted to shoot National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah during a wedding function in the Greater Kailash area. Alert security personnel overpowered the attacker before he could carry out the assault, preventing what could have been a serious incident.

The accused has been identified as 64-year-old Kamal Singh Jamwal, a resident of Purani Mandi in Jammu. During initial questioning, Jamwal reportedly confessed that he had been planning to kill the veteran political leader for nearly two decades.
