Jammu, Oct. 5 -- A week after police busted an alleged counterfeit currency gang in Jammu, investigators have uncovered the strategy behind its operation: the accused were printing only Rs 100 and Rs 50 notes, so the fake currency could slip into the market with ease.
Sources said the initial probe showed that the gang deliberately avoided higher denominations and concentrated on Rs 100 notes and, in particular, Rs 50 notes. "Small fake currency notes can be easily circulated in the market, so the gang was particular about printing the same notes," sources said.
