JAMMU, Sept. 11 -- In a significant milestone, the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), AIIMS Jammu, has successfully performed the institute's first carotid endarterectomy, marking an important advancement in the availability of complex vascular surgical procedures at the institute.
The landmark procedure was performed on a 69-year-old male patient diagnosed with severe 90% stenosis of the right internal carotid artery. The patient had a previous history of middle cerebral artery (MCA) infarction with seizures, making careful neurological and vascular assessment particularly important.
