Jammu, April 13 -- With Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha setting a 100‑day deadline to rid Jammu and Kashmir of the drug menace, authorities have launched an aggressive crackdown, intensifying surveillance and enforcement across the Union Territory.
According to highly placed sources, senior police officers have been directed to map and monitor drug hotspots in their jurisdictions. The focus is on dismantling these concentrated hubs of narcotics activity, which have proliferated as traffickers shift operations to evade law enforcement.
At the 14th UT‑level Narco Coordination Centre meeting last July, officials reported 220 hotspots, including 20 newly flagged areas. Since then, the number has grown as the drug mafia adapts.
