India, Sept. 24 -- India's AI ambitions are increasingly tied to what sits underneath the models, and Microsoft is expanding that foundation with its new India South Central datacenter region in Hyderabad.

Announced at the Microsoft AI Infrastructure Summit, the region has been positioned as a strategic hub for Asia and the Global South. Microsoft also said its datacenter regions across India are now AI-enabled, with AI-capable hardware, high-efficiency cooling and the platform foundation needed for advanced workloads.

The Hyderabad region uses a three-zone architecture designed for continued expansion. It launches with a broad portfolio of Azure services, with more Azure and AI capabilities planned as they roll out.
