India, Nov. 3 -- A barcode scanner is a routine part of warehouse operations, but a weakness in how these devices communicate could make them an unexpected entry point for attackers. The barcode scanner flaw identified by Kaspersky highlights how a seemingly ordinary device can expose connected computers and wider warehouse networks to cyber risks.

Kaspersky researchers uncovered the attack vector while auditing a digital warehouse ecosystem. The findings were presented at the Security Analyst Summit 2026 in Bali. The investigation found that a widely used barcode scanner model did not require authentication between the handheld scanner and its base station.
