India, June 10 -- A slight drop in cyber-attack volumes during May 2026 may appear encouraging on the surface. But a closer look reveals a far more complex picture. The latest data shows that while overall attack activity declined 7% month-on-month, ransomware incidents surged sharply and GenAI-related data exposure risks continued to expand.

The findings suggest that threat actors are not slowing down. Instead, they are changing tactics, targets, and timing.

Education recorded the highest attack volume in May, averaging 4,641 weekly attacks per organisation. Government and telecommunications followed behind.
