India, June 24 -- West Bengal's new BJP government says nearly 69% of its 2026-27 budget allocation has been mapped to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The budget places emphasis on the Sundarbans, climate resilience, solar power and a proposed climate finance facility.

The state has proposed Rs.100 crore for pontoon-based jetties and related infrastructure in the Sundarbans, along with solar-operated boats.

Experts welcomed the climate and SDG focus, but flagged gaps on air pollution, waste management, river protection and low funding for the environment department.
