India, Sept. 10 -- In drought-prone Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh, an unusually heavy monsoon has devastated kharif crops like sesame, peanuts and pulses, yet raised hopes for a strong rabi season.

IMD data show rainfall up to 76 per cent above normal in Mahoba and Chitrakoot, filling ancient Chandel-era ponds to overflowing and triggering floods, damaged homes and blocked village roads.

The drought-prone Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh has received plentiful rains this year. And while farmers' kharif crops have suffered, there is hope for the winter (rabi) crop.
