India, Sept. 8 -- The central government has asked states to ensure timely fund release and fill vacant posts as it prepares to upgrade 300 priority Krishi Vigyan Kendras by March 2027.

ICAR's 2013 High Power Committee had also flagged gaps in recruitment, staff stability, retirement benefits and financial management at KVKs.

India currently has 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras covering 638 rural districts, serving as hubs for farmer training, field demonstrations and technical outreach.

The government also plans to set up entrepreneurship and skill development centres in all KVKs by December 2028, adding to their responsibilities.
