India, June 10 -- The Presidency of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) on June 9, 2026 announced a new global target to raise the share of final energy demand met by electricity from just over 20 per cent today to 35 per cent by 2035. This move places electrification at the heart of efforts to reduce emissions, improve energy security and accelerate the clean energy transition.
