India, Aug. 13 -- Bombay Natural History Society has sterilised more than 2,950 free-ranging dogs in Ladakh to protect vulnerable, Black-necked Cranes, whose chicks and nests were being attacked in alpine wetlands.

Working with the Indian Army and government departments, BNHS is combining dog control, waste management and community awareness to safeguard this culturally revered state bird and strengthen wildlife tourism-based livelihoods.

The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) has sterilised over 2,950 Free Ranging Dogs (FRD) to save Black-necked Cranes (BNC) and wildlife in Ladakh, according to a statement by the organisation.
