India, Aug. 20 -- India has made strong progress on rail electrification and electric two-wheelers, but commercial EVs such as trucks and buses are still in the early stages, says IIT Madras professor Karthik Atmanathan.

Atmanathan says trucks and buses should be prioritised because they consume a large share of imported fuel and have a major impact on energy security and pollution.

Electric truck technology is mature, but adoption needs financing support, resale-value risk cover, charging infrastructure and a second-hand market, say Atmanathan and C S Shankar Ram.
