India, April 6 -- Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has contributed to the commissioning of INS Taragiri, the fourth Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) stealth frigate inducted into the Indian Navy.
The warship, built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, incorporates around 4,000 tonnes of specialised steel plates supplied by SAIL. The steel was produced across its Bokaro, Bhilai, and Rourkela plants, showcasing its advanced manufacturing capabilities.
SAIL continues to play a key role in India's defence indigenisation efforts, having previously supplied steel for major naval platforms including INS Vikrant and earlier Project 17A frigates.
