India, July 21 -- State-owned Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has granted in-principle approval for the expansion of its flagship Bhilai Steel Plant from 6.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 10.2 MTPA, with an estimated investment of around Rs 31,000 crore.
According to the Ministry of Steel, the expansion project is expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment during both the construction and operational phases.
The project will source its major raw materials from SAIL's captive mines, along with domestic and imported sources, supporting the company's long-term capacity enhancement plans.
