India, Oct. 1 -- The rupee fell 37 paise to close at 96.31 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday, slipping below the key 96-per-dollar level and marking its weakest close in more than two months.

The domestic currency opened at 95.95 and weakened further to an intraday low of 96.34 amid heightened risk aversion in global markets, rising global bond yields and continued selling by foreign investors.

Forex traders said the rupee could remain under pressure as elevated global Treasury yields and risk aversion continue to weigh on emerging-market currencies.
