India, Aug. 31 -- The Indian rupee weakened 13 paise to 95.56 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday, as elevated crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions continued to weigh on the domestic currency.
The rupee came under additional pressure as traders increased bets on a US Federal Reserve rate hike in September. Higher expectations of tighter US monetary policy pushed Treasury yields higher and strengthened the dollar against major currencies.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.56 per US dollar, compared with its previous close of 95.43.
