India, Oct. 5 -- The rupee ended 5 paise lower at 96.30 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, with elevated crude oil prices and continued foreign fund outflows keeping the domestic currency under pressure around the key 96-per-dollar level.

Forex traders said improving risk appetite provided some support to the rupee, while market participants are now focusing on foreign capital flows and the Reserve Bank of India's upcoming monetary policy decision for further direction.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 96.20 and weakened during the session to hit an intraday low of 96.31 against the dollar. It finally settled at 96.30 (provisional), down 5 paise from its previous close.
