India, Aug. 24 -- The rupee surrendered its early gains to end 3 paise lower at 95.74 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, weighed down by a stronger American currency and weakness in domestic equities.
Forex traders said the USD/INR pair remained range-bound as higher Brent crude prices, sustained importer demand and caution surrounding new US sanctions against Iran kept pressure on the domestic currency.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.65 and moved between an intraday high of 95.64 and a low of 95.75 before settling at 95.74 (provisional), down 3 paise from its previous close.
