India, Oct. 1 -- The rupee traded in a narrow range and declined 3 paise to 95.97 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday, as continued dollar demand from state-run oil companies weighed on the currency.

The rupee's losses remained limited, however, with RBI-backed dollar sales in the spot and forward markets helping keep the currency below the key 96-per-dollar level.

Meanwhile, sustained foreign portfolio outflows and elevated US Treasury yields continued to exert pressure on the USD/INR pair.
