India, July 16 -- The Indian rupee slipped 6 paise to 96.31 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday, pressured by volatile global crude oil prices, a stronger US dollar, and persistent geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

According to forex traders, continued FII outflows also weighed on the domestic currency, although a positive opening in the Indian equity markets helped limit the downside. The rupee opened at 96.28 in the interbank foreign exchange market before weakening further to 96.31 against the greenback.
