India, Aug. 27 -- The rupee strengthened 4 paise to 95.40 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday, supported by easing Brent crude prices.

Brent crude fell below the USD 90-per-barrel mark for the first time in several sessions amid ongoing discussions between Iran and Oman over a temporary shipping corridor through the Strait.

Although no final agreement has been reached, continued negotiations have eased concerns over a prolonged disruption to global oil supplies, providing support to the rupee, forex traders said.
