India, July 9 -- The National Film Development Corporation–National Film Archive of India (NFDC–NFAI) has restored the Malayalam classic 'Kireedam' in 4K resolution with Dolby Atmos sound, with the iconic film set to return to theatres across India and overseas on July 10, 2026.
Originally released in 1989, the film was restored under the National Film Heritage Mission after its original camera negative had deteriorated. NFDC–NFAI used a 35mm release print preserved in its archives for over three decades as the basis for the restoration, highlighting the importance of long-term archival preservation.
