India, March 11 -- Jindal Steel has been declared the preferred bidder for the Thakurani-A1 Iron Ore Block by the Government of Odisha, marking a key milestone in the company's strategic expansion plans.

The block, spread across 202 hectares in Keonjhar district, was awarded following the conclusion of an online auction. Jindal Steel committed to pay a premium of 101.20% to the state government for the mineral asset.

The Thakurani-A1 block was included in a recent auction round covering 12 virgin mineral blocks notified by the Odisha Directorate of Mines and Geology in December 2025. As per government documents, the G3-level explored block holds an estimated iron ore resource of around 50 million tonnes.
