India, June 2 -- Indian Railways recorded freight loading of 145 million tonnes in May 2026, registering a 1.3% year-on-year growth despite global logistical challenges and geopolitical uncertainties impacting supply chains.

The growth was driven by higher transportation of iron ore, steel, fertilizers, and other goods. Among key segments, the "Balance Other Goods" category posted a strong 16% increase, while iron ore loading grew 4.8%, pig iron and finished steel loading rose 3.5%, and fertilizer movement increased 6.2% compared to the same period last year.
