India, June 17 -- Indian Railways has approved a Rs 405 crore signalling modernisation project on Eastern Railway, aimed at enhancing safety, reliability and operational efficiency across key high-density routes.

The project involves replacing relay-based interlocking systems with advanced Electronic Interlocking (EI) technology at 32 locations, including 25 Panel Interlocking (PI)/Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) stations and seven Intermediate Block Signalling (IBS) locations on High Density Network (HDN) and Highly Utilised Network (HUN) routes.
