India, Aug. 12 -- Indian Railways has approved the deployment of Kavach Version 4.0 across 660 route km of the Izzatnagar Division of North Eastern Railway at an estimated cost of Rs 295 crore.

The project has been sanctioned under the broader initiative to deploy Kavach along with a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) communication backbone across remaining sections of the railway network.

Kavach is an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system designed to prevent Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents and train collisions by continuously monitoring train movements and automatically applying brakes when required.
