India, Aug. 20 -- The Ministry of Railways has prioritised the manufacturing of 238 AC EMU rakes through Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, and Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Raebareli, to ensure timely availability of rolling stock for Mumbai's suburban railway network.
Under the indicative production programme, ICF will manufacture 120 AC EMU rakes, RCF 71 rakes and MCF 47 rakes, taking the total to 238. The move is aimed at aligning rolling stock availability with the commissioning of infrastructure under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP).
