India, Aug. 6 -- The Government has highlighted the progress made under the Digital India Programme, stating that the initiative has significantly expanded digital infrastructure, internet connectivity and citizen-centric digital services since its launch in 2015.
According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, telephone connections have increased from 93.3 crore in 2014 to over 133 crore as of March 2026, while internet subscribers have grown from 25.15 crore to 109.27 crore during the same period. Under the BharatNet project, around 2.21 lakh Gram Panchayats have been made service-ready with high-speed broadband connectivity.
